Up Mayo

It's Cinco de Mayo today, which I'm very excited about since my mother's people come from County Mayo. For some reason this holiday celebrating that beautiful west of Ireland county seems to be very popular with our Mexican hermanos y hermanas, too, and I think that's great. I've always maintained that the Irish and the Mexicans are essentially the same people on opposite sides of the globe and sun tan scale. So I'm taking this Cinco de Mayo opportunity to encourage you, Irish person, to not only celebrate today (perhaps at Cantina Del Ray, the only Mexican restaurant in town owned by a Corkman) but to make plans to attend our sister festival at Crown Center, the Fiesta KC, held this year May 14-16.

I've given you lots of good reasons in the past to go to this muy agradable fiesta. They're here, here and here if you need reminding. Their website has apparently been on siesta since last year, so you won't get much info there. But you know there'll be musica, cerveza y craic. What else do you need?
