Off To See The Wizard

The first time a bunch of us KC Festies went to the Milwaukee Irish Fest...this must have been 2000, 2001 maybe...that's what it felt like. You know, that scene when Dorothy and the Tin Woodsman and the Lion and Scarecrow went trembling down that long green aisle to see the Great and Powerful Oz. This was back in the days of the Brookside and Westport Irish Fests and those of us who went to the mighty Milwaukee festival representing the Brookside fest had yet to see our biggest attendance of 26,000 for the weekend.

Times change. The KC fest now draws 100,000 annually and the Milwaukee organizers have become peers and great friends. So I'm heading to the airport now to visit Oz. I'll be reporting from there through Sunday. You kids behave yourselves 'til I get back.

While you're there, find Corey and Liam from Irish Fireside. They will be in the Cultural market area hawking Liam's shard necklaces. Tell them Jody sent you and then issue them a personal invite to the fest next year!

Curious about something, Dan.. is the Milwaukee's Fest's staff completely volunteer like ours is?
You talk about the "old days" and we have grown for sure, but KCIF still retains some of that "hey kids, let's put on a show!" feel. It's one of the things I love about it. Have fun your blogginess!!
