Band Announcement, 3/10

We're going to stay local today. After all, with St. Patrick's Day just a week away, and the Brookside, Martin City and North Kansas City parades all this weekend, as well as The Elders Hooley, there's no place better to be Irish than Kansas City.

Let's play word association.  When I say "local Irish music legend", what's the first thing that comes to mind? I bet I know.

Eddie Delahunt.

Dublin born Eddie has done it all since blessing Kansas City with his presence more than 20 years ago. Performances big and small, a brush with death, marriage to one of our finest young women, being named Mr. Irish Fest, Paddy's Day parade grand marshal, local business owner, grave digger (ask him about that one)...Eddie is a force to be reckoned with. But mostly what Eddie is, is a performer. I've seen him play I bet 100 times in 20 years. And I never, ever get tired of it. And I never fail to think how lucky we are that he's here.

With his current band of friends sharing the stage with him Eddie Delahunt and Friends are a staple of Irish Fest and they'll be back in 2011. To tell you the truth, I could sooner imagine Irish Fest without beer sooner than without Eddie. There may be bigger, more famous names in our 17 Days Of Band Announcements, but there are no bigger talents. Welcome back to Irish Fest, Eddie!
