Great news! Gaelic Storm will be back at the Kansas City Irish Fest!
In 2011. For this year however, all us GS fans are S.O.L. Normally I wouldn't bother announcing that a band won't be coming here. I mean, hell I could do that all day. "Not appearing the 2010 Kansas City Irish Fest! U2! Westlife! Frank Patterson! Turlough O'Carolan!" But Gaelic Storm are a bit special, as all of us in the Irish Fest business know, and I know that as Irish Fest gets closer a lot of you will be asking where Jessie and the boys are.
They're on a cruise. Or will be Irish Fest weekend anyway. When I talked to the band last year about playing here in 2010, they warned me that this long ago committed-to cruise might be happening Labor Day weekend, and so it is. We would have loved to have had them here in landlocked KC far away from any love boats, but in the words of Mick Jagger, you can't always get what you want.
I told Patrick Murphy not long ago to get us on the schedule for 2011. He told me if was still alive then, they'd be here. I told him that his continued breathing wasn't really a deal breaker, that we could just prop him and his accordion up in the corner to which he replied "if you do that I'll play the accordion just as well as I do now!"
Whichever way it works out, rest assured after a too-long hiatus, the Rumpus will return to Kansas City. Next year.

I can't wait for the e-mails we will get about this...
Storm not coming. Storm will be coming. Ok thank you Brian Busby (local tv weather dude for the out of towners) At any rate they are coming. Just like spring. Oh CRAP it is snowing again... Still
Gaelic Starm may not be in Kansas City in 2010 but they WILL be at the Iowa Irish Fest in Waterloo, Iowa, on August 6 through 8, 2010.
(Not certain if it will be Friday or Saturday as they split the weekend with the Dublin Irish Fest in Ohio on that weekend.)

Don't fret if the band isn't listed yet. I've got it straight from Murphy himself they've confirmed the gig, so may it's time to think about confirming a hotel room in Waterloo yourself, eh?

We got to see Gaelic Storm last night at Mizzou's Jesse Auditorium. It was nice not having a hour and a half drive home after a show. :)

How was the show, Jason?
Excellent as always. It was my first time seeing them in an auditorium setting and it was odd having assigned seats and not getting to stand up close and personal next to stage. It seems to affect Patrick's connection with the crowd at first but by the end they were able to get most of the people up and on their feet.
Got to hear a new song, Raised on Black and Tans, and they said that it will be available for free download from their site in March as a St. Patrick's Day present.

Thanks for the report!
Talking with Patrick last night he confirmed they will be at the Iowa Irish Fest in Waterloo for two days - Saturday, Aug 7, and Sunday, Aug. 8 - and will be at the Dublin Irish Fest only on the Friday night, Aug. 6.
According to Mapquest, Waterloo is a mere five hours from Kansas City (or, strangely enough, Columbia)which means you can catch a Gaelic Storm weekend evening show AND an afternoon performance on Sunday and still be on time for work on Monday. All for the princely sum of a $10 admission.
I'd say it might be time for a summer roadtrip.
