Sunday Sunday Sunday

Remember when an October Sunday afternoon in Kansas City meant another Chiefs' win? When we'd all get together to eat, drink and cheer the mighty red and gold? Those days are gone, brother. The Chiefs redefine Suck every week. This Sunday, the football follies move to Washington where the Redskins will kick our asses in the Politically Incorrect Mascot Bowl.

Here's what you ought to do. Ignore them. They can lose without our help, thank you very much. Instead turn that FM radio dial to the left to KCUR 89.3 at 1:00 PM central time. There you'll find the great traditional Celtic music show Thistle and Shamrock with Fiona Ritchie, Kansas City Irish Fest Stage Manager Mindy Johnson, Director Erin Kiekbusch and me as we take part in the biannual National Public Radio pledge drive.

KCUR is a huge supporter of Irish Fest and we're a huge supporter of KCUR. So please, set your alarm for this coming Sunday and tune in. No pledge is too small - or too large for that matter - and there are lots of easy ways to pay. You'll hear some great music, we'll read your name on the air, tell you how much we love you...it'll be awesome. Much better than the stupid football game will be.

Honestly we often struggle to make our goal during the fall pledge drive, and I can't tell you how much that bugs me. It's not huge. Hell, if every Irish Fest staff member pledged a lousy $20 we'd make it (hint hint, Irish Fest staff members).

I'll be reminding you again as we get closer, but please plan on calling us. Sunday between 1:00 and 2:00. The number you'll need is 816-235-5287 or pledge online at www.kcur.org. We'll chat with yiz on Sunday.

Go Chiefs! And come back when you've learned how to play football.
