Learning
I like education, personally. I believe that everybody ought to learn useful stuff at every opportunity. Especially history, because without history, there wouldn't be a past and without a past we wouldn't know who won wars, and when important people were born and where we left our car keys. So I was pleased to get this valuable history lesson, courtesy of Kansas City Irish Fest treasurer and transplanted Dub Ronan Collins. Put this up in your brain and then when the history of Ireland comes up at a Christmas cocktail party, you won't look like an idiot.

Dan, I'm a fan of your blog.
HOWEVER, I just read your bio comment,(paraphrased) "Who likes poetry?"
I must take exception to a supposed fan of Irish culture & heritage encouraging a dislike of poetry! What about the land of James Joyce, William Yeats, etc, etc, etc? And what are most of our wonderful Irish songs if not poems set to lovely music?
Irishmama, you're right of course and I apologize for any slight to the great Irish poetic tradition. I was just joking. Actually, I love poetry and dabble in it a little myself once in awhile, as you made have read on the blog.
I have amended my bio accordingly.
Does the guy in this bar remind anyone else of John Monaghan?
