Gift Giving

Some 400 years ago, the great Charles Dickens in his classic "A Christmas Carol", penned these immortal words, spoken by George Bailey just before Mr. Potter banished him to the island of misfit toys:

"Holy crap, there's only a week left 'til Christmas!"

Or something like that. The point being that the holidays are running right up our collective back and there's nothing we can do to stop them. If you're like me, and God help you if you are, the week before Christmas finds you beginning to think that maybe pretty soon you should really think about starting your Christmas shopping soon. If that's the case and you can't think of what to get that special somebody, here's an innovative gift idea: bagpipes.

Not actually-go-out-and-buy-a-set bagpipes. Buy them tickets to hear the best in piping and drumming at this year's Winter Storm concert, Saturday, January 12, 2008, 7:15 pm at Community Christian Church, 4601 Main here in town. That's the church with the light beams shooting out the top of it, just up the hill a little from the Country Club Plaza. The show, the 7th annual, features an international, all Gold-Medal line-up of twenty of the world’s best highland bagpipers and champion drummers, from Scotland, Canada, and the United States. Tickets are $30.00 for adults, kids under 12 are $15.00 and under 5 are free. The concert is the highlight of an entire weekend devoted to piping and drumming, so if you indulge in either of those instruments be sure to check out the entire schedule.

Buy tickets to the concert here. They fit into the average stocking and one size fits all. The perfect gift.

And so as Tiny Tim said, just before with his nose aglow he brought the toys back to Whoville, "Happy Christmas to all and to all a good pipe."
