To Pub Or Not To Pub?

During yesterday's discussion here regarding the perception of the Terrace Stage as the main performance area at the Kansas City Irish Fest and the Boulevard Pub Stage as a secondary venue, it was suggested by an anonymous reader that part of the reason for that perception may have something to do with the name "Pub Stage." He or she pointed out, rightly I think, that the word "pub" denotes small, intimate, cozy...not the qualities that come to mind when one thinks of a main music stage at a major festival.

Suggestion noted and acted upon.

It's actually long overdue. Our first year at Crown Center, that stage was in a big tent which was fronted by our replica pub front and thus was a pub stage, more or less. The tent turned out to be kind of a bad idea, so it was scrapped the next year. Then the pub front moved to it's present location at the main gate, taking with it any reason for the stage to retain the prefix "pub." But it hadn't occurred to us to drop those irrelevant three letters, until yesterday.

The Boulevard Pub Stage is dead. Long live The Boulevard Stage. And thanks, Anonymous and Kevin for some really insightful comments. See, we do pay attention.
