Kansas City Irish balladeer Bob Reeder returns to the Kansas City Irish Fest in 2006. If you've ever set foot in an Irish pub in KC, chances are you had the great pleasure of hearing Bob. And if you have, he's sure to have made you laugh out loud, tap your feet, bang your glass, and swell with Irish pride. He's a great performer and we'd be lucky to have him at Irish Fest even if he came alone.
But he doesn't.
He comes, like all your big stars, with an entourage. A devoted bunch of fans who call themselves collectively The Harp And Shamrock. These Reederistas (Reederites?) could have contented themselves with meeting at Bob's numerous gigs around the area, tipping pints and and clapping in the appropriate spots of The Wild Rover, and nobody would have thought ill of them. But no. They chose instead to channel the energy and passion they have for Bob's music into charitable work, mainly the Hearing Aid Fund at Children's Mercy Hospital. Last December they donated $5400 to the Hearing and Speech Clinic at CMH. But don't let all that do-gooding fool you: these folks also find plenty of time for the previously mentioned foot stomping, pint draining, and general silliness that are the hallmark of any Bob Reeder show.
You can join the Hanp & Shamrockers at their regular meetings, on the 3rd Friday of every month at Kyle’s Taproom, 6825 N. Oak Trafficway, Gladstone, MO 64118 at 7:30 pm.
And you can see Bob this very afternoon at 3:00, in Weston at O'Malley's. His complete schedule can be found here.
