Around The House And Mind The Dresser

It's a holiday weekend, so let's take a short break from our festival, and have a little gander around the web at what's happening right now in the world of Irish music and culture.

Excitement is building on Achill Island as the latest Mayo located movie, ‘Secret of the Cave’ has begun shooting in and around the village of Doogort this week. Based on American author Arthur S Maxwell's (Uncle Arthur) book, the movie stars Patrick Bergin, and features Irish-American and family themes. Mayo is of course the featured county of this year's KC Irish Fest so have a nose around the paper and you'll even find reference to Eileen Ivers, courtesy of her parents being from Kiltimagh.

Meanwhile just ahead of their Belfast gig, Flogging Molly frontman, Dave King, in the Belfast Telegraph says ""Irish traditional music, folk music and punk rock are one and the same. It's all about energy." And perhaps backing him up, over in Egypt, in an interview in the Al-Ahram Weekly, Sargent Garcia, the star of Cairo World Music Day, says "There would be no rock'n'roll without African music, nor would there be any without Irish traditional music."

So there.
