The Greatest: A Friday Conversation

So you're in charge.

You've been given the task of booking Irish Fest's headliner for Saturday night. You have an unlimited budget and the ability to book artists who aren't even alive any more. I'm not talking about like Zombie Frank Patterson, but any performer in his or her prime, living or dead. You're asked to book who you think is the single greatest singer, musician or band that Ireland has ever produced to do a 90 minute set on the Boulevard Stage.

Who would it be?

U2? Turlough O Carolan? The Bothy Band? Christy Moore? The Chieftains? Thin Lizzy? One Direction?

You have the check book, you have the keys to the time machine. Here's my pick. Who's yours? Your comments, please.

If Van Morrison could close with Moondance all would be right with the world. But I cannot complain to much about Eilleen Ivers, Seven Nations or The Elders!

I've always wanted to see Great Big Sea headline, & I know my sisters would love to see Carbonleaf, but the greatest Irish musical act? The Chieftains or the Clancy Brothers with Tommy Makem, I think.

Another idea I had, what about exploring the effect Irish music had on the Folk music of the 1960's? The Kingston Trio, The Brothers Four, The Irish Rovers...heck, Burl Ives! Peter, Paul & Mary. They all brought an Irish/Celtic feel to their music. Personally, I think growing up on that music is what led my sisters & me to love Irish/Celtic music so much!

You already picked my choice - Christy Moore. Quick, let's get him before he really IS dead.
