Remember last year at Irish Fest we had The Year of The Woman, with all those great female performers, the Irish Women display in the heritage area, etc.? Well, the Comedy Stage, like me with band announcements, is playing catch up. So 2011 is the Year of the Woman on that funniest of stages. Which brings us to our announcements.
Number 1: Maeve Higgins. A very funny Corkwoman, Higgins is no stranger to fest life having performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Melbourne International Festival, the Adelaide Fringe Festival, the Kilkenny Comedy Festival, the New Zealand International Festival. She also appeared on the RTE shows "Naked Camera" and "Fancy Vittles". And best of all, as I said, she's funny, which I've found is an excellent quality for a comedian to have.
Here, I'll prove it.
Number 2: Eleanor Tiernan. Hailing from Athlone, Co Roscommon, Eleanor has comedy and probably other things in her blood, being the cousin of renowned comic Tommy Tiernan. Since starting comedy she has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival, the Galway Comedy Festival, in Best of Irish at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, at the Bud Light Comedy Revue and was a semi-finalist in the Paramount Comedy’s “So You Think You’re Funny?” competition.
Within just a year of starting stand-up Eleanor was asked to perform in Dublin’s Vicar Street for the RTE production “The Liffey Laughs” and BBC’s “One Night Stand”. She also appeared in RTE’s "The Cafe." Add The Kansas City Irish Fest to that resume.
The Irish Fest Comedy Stage is, or rather will be located just above the main gate on the third level of Crown Center. Be sure to make it part of your weekend schedule.
