October is one of those kinds of months that are...what do you call it when something is bitter and sweet at the same time? I can't think of it. Anyway, that's what October is. The weather is beautiful and the leaves are changing. Yay! But winter and cold are just around the corner. Boo. Post season baseball! Yay! The Royals once again watch it on TV with the rest of us. Boo. My birthday! Yay! My birthday! boo!
But one thing about October that has no boo, at least not in the negative sense. October has Halloween. Halloween, that most Irish of holidays*. And in Kansas City, Halloween means that for the 7th year in a row Deadie Delahaunt will be hosting his annual Pooka Party. As usual the spooky soiree will take place at Harlings Upstairs bar, located where Westport Road dies at Main Street. As usual it's a benefit for the Good Samaritan Project in memory of John Delahunt. The party starts at 7:30 on October 23rd, a Saturday and a $10 cover charge is requested–though more is always welcome. Live Irish music and dance tunes spun by DJ Irishman, Colm Delahunt. Come in costume or face the ridicule of your peers.
Pooka Party 2010. So much fun it's scary.
*St. Patrick's Day is a Catholic holiday. Halloween is ancient Irish.
