Paul "Bono" Hewson, of U2, biggest band in the world, turns 50 years old today. We all wish him a very happy birthday.
And I'm reminded that we've so far been unsuccessful in our efforts to book Hewson and his mates to perform at the Kansas City Irish Fest, in spite of our last offer offer of $3710.00 cash American money. But today's the day. Here's the way I figure it. This being his birthday, Bono will probably get on his computer–or maybe go use one at the library if he doesn't own one of his own–and Google his name to see what people are saying about him. When he does that, he'll end up here and he'll read this (hi Bono!) and he'll sit up and take notice when this pops out at him:
$5000.00
That's right, Mr. Bono. We're upping the offer. Five Large. Yours for the taking in exchange for one 90 minute set at the 2010 KC Irish Fest. You pick the night, though Friday would really be best for us if you don't have a preference. That's $1250 each for the four of you. Or divide it up as you see fit, we don't care. Maybe Adam doesn't get as much as everybody else, who knows? The free beer and the 4 free t-shirts from our earlier offer are still included, plus I'm throwing in three KCIF baseball caps (and one knit cap, Mr. Edge. I feel ya.)
Mr. Bono, times are tough. I know the Irish economy is in the crapper. You owe it to your family and their welfare to keep the taters on the table, so don't turn your back on this offer. It pains me to do this, but since we open in 116 days and we have programs and ads and stuff to do, I have to put an expiration date on this offer. You have until July 1st. I'll be standing by.
And again, happy birthday.

There you go again, offering bands a spot in KCIF without running it thru me or the rest of the committee. $5000 is going to put us over budget. We can't afford that! Let's try for next year.

I'll tell you what, Dave. If they accept our offer I'll put up the $5000 personally in exchange for 1% of the merch sales. Deal?
Thanks for the B-day wishes but the only merchandise we can do for 5K is maybe some blowups to add to your collection. Bono
