Volunteerism

We're just under a month now until a couple really exciting things happen around here. One, volunteer sign ups will open for the 2010 festival on May 1st. And two, you'll be accessing those sign-ups through our beautiful new website.

First things first: we need you to volunteer. Really, really need you, and I'm speaking directly to you. Irish Fest grows a little bigger every year. We add more amenities, we cover more ground. And you see the tracks that train of thought is headed down. We need more people every year to make the whole thing work.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking: "Volunteer? Why do they expect me to volunteer when Regan and all those other Irish Festers are living large and pulling down big Fest paychecks? I've seen Regan driving that sweet-ass '89 Mazda pickup with the rusty bumper. Rides like that don't grow on trees. I know he's pulling down the big Irish Fest money. If they all don't volunteer, why should I?"

Au contraire, a chara. We're all volunteers. The Kansas City Irish Fest has one employee, just one. That's one out of 9 directors, 50 year round staffers and more than a 1000 weekend workers.

We treat our volunteers well. You'll get a free t-shirt. Free admission the day you work and another free ticket besides. Free refreshments during your shift. Most shifts are a short 4 hours. And of course you'll meet and work with the finest, funnest people you'll find anywhere putting on Kansas City's best annual event.

This week I'll be offering some job descriptions to help you decide which of our many jobs is right for you so when the calendar page turns to May 1, you'll be ready to nab just the right position at exactly the time you want to work. We'll call it Want Ads Week. Because we really, really want you to join us when we open...in just 151 days.
