2010

We had our monthly Irish Fest staff meeting last night. Had you been there, a quick look around the room would have made something immediately clear. There are a lot of women at the leadership levels of this event. This isn't new. There have been women at the top of Irish Fest since the early days of the Brookside and Westport Irish festivals. Today, well over half of our total number of directors and committee chairs are women.

Now let's look at this year's KCIF entertainment line up. Notice anything? The four sisters of Screaming Orphans. The eight young women of Girsa. The Beaton Sisters. Eileen Ivers. The women of Cara and Two Duos. Kelly. It wasn't an accident. 2010 is officially The Year Of The Woman at the Kansas City Irish Fest. In addition to the music, look for a great display in our heritage area on great Irish women through history, and a few surprises, too.

There'll be more announcements concerning our theme down the road. Stay tuned. Oh, and you fellas are still welcome, too.
