A new year! Finally we can stop referring to "next year's Irish Fest!" It's a little thing I know, but when the temperature outside is 5° as it is right now, and there's 10 inches of snow on the ground with more expected this week as there is right now, we must take these tiny little shreds of hope and cling to them like a drowning man clings to the broken lid of a styrofoam cooler. Yes, Irish Fest doesn't swing open the big green gates for another 242 days, many of those frigid ones like today. But glimmers of summer fun to come slip in through the snow flakes if you're paying attention.
Yesterday for example. Yesterday, Oliver "Revilo" Christianson, the newest member of our talented stable of cow artists sent me his cow. And I love it. It's the cow that helps me, in my minds eye, visualize the coming posters and t-shirts and ads and banners that will tell the world about this year's Kansas City Irish Fest and when I do that, the temperature seems just a little bit warmer outside.
I'll be unveiling the newborn cow here a little later this week, so stay tuned. And stay warm. Sweet fancy Moses, it's cold outside.
