It's almost the end of January which means, if my calculations are correct, that next month is February. February as we all know is the crap crap crappiest month of the year, its only possible positive attributes being that it's the shortest month and the start of spring training.
Notice I did not include that other Crapruary milepost in there, the hearts and flowers one. I'm not a fan. Don't get me wrong, I'm a romantic fella alright. Why just last week I Scotch-taped a daisy to Mrs. Bloggy's vacuum cleaner handle for her. No, it's the obligatory nature of Valentine's Day romance that's the burr under my saddle. But we must bow to the conventions of the season I suppose. And the Kansas City Irish Fest does love you all with a depth we can only hope to some day express. So Tir na Blog is jumping on this annual romance wagon and we're dragging you, kicking and screaming, with us.
Here's what you do: send us your Valentine message. Want to tell hubby how much you appreciate his recent efforts to not pee all over the bathroom floor? Want to let the wife know that even after all these years, you'd marry her all over again, because hey, who else would marry an old codger like you at this point anyway? Want to send a surreptitious cyber kiss to your secret Irish Fest crush? Want to let that cute fiddle player you saw on the State Street Stage last year that she could rosin your bow anytime?
I'm your Cupid, baby.
On Valentine's Day–that's February 14th I think–we'll publish them here, assuming we get any, and you can declare your love to the world, or at least the miniscule part of it that might stumble across this blog. You can shout your love from the mountain top, or the desk top or lap top. I might even draw a little Valentine picture to go with your wish so your crush can print it out and frame it, which is I'm sure what he or she would do. Send those steaming little (I said little. Let's keep them short, okay?) piles of love to irishfestlove@yahoo.com any time between now and Feb. 12th and send your honey here to Tir na Blog on the 14th. And then, get ready for action, baby.
