Numerical Natalie

Today's date is 9/9/09*, which I'm sure means something ominous to people who know about such things. To me it means it's a good day to look at some numbers and I happen to have some laying right here.

Our recycling Empress Natalie, also know as Her Awesomeness, has the totals on how you kept Irish Fest green this year. Thanks to you we recycled:

• 248 bags of bottles/cans/beer cups at an average weight of 9 lbs per bag = 2,232 lbs of plastic recycle.
• 1,152 cubic feet of broken down corrugate cardboard.

Wow. A ton and a quarter of plastic that will live on be turned into...well, other plastic I guess, but most importantly won't be buried in a landfill. And enough cardboard to fill 64 average sized refrigerators after you take all the beer out, which I can get rid of for you.

*Incidentally, next year my birthday will be 10/10/10. If you want to mark that on your calendar or start shopping or anything.

To Nat and her entire crew, and to all of you who participated, huge, green, Earth-loving thank yous.

Hats off to Natalie and her crew for making KCIF even "greener".
I really liked the fact that we were able to recycle beer cups this year!
Good work on a very hard job!
