Spirits

This is absolutely true.

I design most of the stuff you'll see around Irish Fest in a couple weeks. Yesterday I was working on the signs that will go in all eight of the places you'll be able to get a cold beer (or other drink) at this year's Irish Fest. You know, the signs that say what we serve, how many tokens, all that stuff. In addition, this year in Stolen Idea #1 from the Milwaukee Irish Fest, I designed some signs that describe for people who may not be familiar with them what our various varieties of beer taste like. Boulevard Wheat, Pale Ale, Dry Stout...our out of town guests especially might like a little guidance. As I'm laying out the description for Dry Stout, I swear, just for a second I caught the aroma of a pint of the stuff. And no, I was not drinking and designing. It was weird. Can you be haunted by a beer?

In case you were wondering, at Irish Fest this year the thirsty among you have this menu from which to choose for 2009:
  • Boulevard Unfiltered Wheat
  • Boulevard Pale Ale
  • Boulevard Dry Stout
  • Miller Lite
  • Coors Light
  • Mike's Hard Lemonade
  • Wine: Chardonnay and Merlot
  • Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Sierra Mist
  • Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr, Pepper
  • Mountain Dew, G2 Sports Drink
  • Aquafina Water
Remember that here in Missouri you need to be 21 or older to purchase or consume alcohol. Legal age ID bracelets will be available and no beer, wine or hard lemonade will be sold to anybody without one. And if you try it, whippersnapper, you will be tossed out on your sorry, law-breaking, under-aged ass. Sláinte!

Dan, for some years y'all had Mountain Valley Spring Water, sourced just down the road from me in Hot Springs, Arkansas. What happened? Just curious.

You know Martha, I don't really recall all the details of the change. It's been a couple years since Mountain Valley was with us. It's nothing against the great state of Arkansas, I promise!

Why is there no Magners? C'mon, not all of us drink beer. Please, please, please, don't make me go back to my hotel for a drink!

Jody, we won't have Magners I'm sorry to say. But there's wine and Mike's Hard Lemonade, and those aren't beer. Won't that do? I hate to see you walk back to the hotel every time you get thirsty.

I'm w/ Jody! It doesn't even have to be Magners - I'll take Woodpecker or Strongbow or whatever other kind you can get! Wine and Mike's are no comparison to the much more authentic cider. And, if you want to be fair about it, there are 5 kinds of beer (2 of them (lite/light) and only 3 kinds of alchoholic-but-not-beer. Maybe next year we could try to equal things out a bit?
