Eleven hours sleep last night and feeling almost back to normal. So much to digest about the trip up north. We've got plenty to talk about and do regarding our own upcoming little hooley, so I won't spend too much more time on our pilgrimage to Milwaukee. But to round things up I'll tell you that you'll see direct results of that trip at the Kansas City Irish Fest this year and especially next. Bands we met in Milwaukee will be here next year, and no I won't tell you who. Events, policies, infrastructure, contacts...there's a lot to steal up there. After 29 years they kinda seem to know what they're doing.
Having said all that I'll tell you this. A very well known Irish musician, a veteran of the MIF and KCIF told me something as the Milwaukee festival was winding down on Sunday night. We were on stage for The Scattering, Milwaukee's amazing closing show where virtually all the headlining players and singers take the stage at once in a massive hour long session and sing along. Looking out at the scene both on the stage and in front of it he told me that this really is the greatest Irish Fest in the world. But he said "Kansas City is second, Dan. I mean it."
So let's get to work. Irish Fest opens in a lucky 17 days!

Dan, welcome back. I went to the Milwaukee Irish Fest for the first time over 20 years, and have been back several times. It is the biggest and the best. This will be my 3rd trip to KCIF and I can't wait. KC does a great job. In some respects KCIF is better. I can stay next door, you are very family friendly, I can bring my own beer, whoops just kidding! Plus, I love the variety of music at Milwaukee, but 16 stages is sort of overwhelming.
You are smart for learning from Milwaukee, and even smarter for applying what you have learned well.
See you in 2 1/2 weeks!
