The good people at Crown Center who host us each year have presented us with a bit of a challenge for 2009. They've decided to open the ice skating rink under the big State Street Stage tent a few weeks early this year. What that means to us is that Irish Fest weekend, we'll be listening, dancing and drinking on 6 inches of cool ice in stead of the big concrete slab we've gotten used to. Different, yes. Impossible, no. It might be fun, really. And if temps are high, it could be really refreshing.
Skating will be suspended from 5:00 PM on Friday until Labor Day morning at 11:00. Skates will not be allowed, nor will running or excessive sliding on the ice. Parents should keep a close eye on small children and everybody should be aware of the slippery conditions. But really, think of it. Lively Irish music on the ice?
It gives a whole new meaning to the term "slip jig."
