An anonymous commenter has posted the press release from Foley's Bar in New York regarding the results of their contest to rewrite the lyrics to Danny Boy. According to that release,

"Regan’s submission topped entries from across the globe, including the U.S. , Ireland , and Canada." And "The new, happier lyrics were judged the best among hundreds of entries submitted to Foley’s, which last year gained worldwide fame for banning the singing of Danny Boy for the entire month of March."

So there goes my theory that I was the only one who entered the thing. You can read the press release here.
