Mere minutes ago a silent transfer of power took place here at Irish Fest HQ. 2008 President Ed Scanlon stepped aside for president 2009 Ed Follis. Our new board president begins the year with this message:
"It is hard to believe another year has come and gone. Looking back, 2008 was another great year for the Kansas City Irish Fest. As we move forward, I’d like to thank Ed Scanlon for all the leadership he provided as president over the last two years. Under Ed’s leadership, Irish Fest continued to enjoy incredible growth and success. I am truly honored to be the new president of Irish Fest and look forward to helping oversee the continued success of the festival in 2009. We will reach a milestone this year as 2009 marks the ten year anniversary of both the Brookside and the Westport Irish Festivals. We have come a long way in a short time. The festival may still be eight months away, but the staff at Irish Fest is already hard at work getting ready for our 7th Annual Kansas City Irish Fest. Our expansion last year saw the addition of another children’s area, the addition of “The Snug” and brought an enhancement to our second main stage. Look for more additions and enhancements in 2009. We are very fortunate to have such an incredible Irish Community in Kansas City whose support over the years has helped to make the festival what it is today. Thanks for all of your support and we look forward to seeing you again on Labor Day Weekend! On behalf of the Board of Directors and our entire Committee, I would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year in 2009!"
