Hey, help me out with something. I was asked recently to come up with a list for a friend. A list of classic, seminal Irish music albums (yes, I said albums. I'm old.) that someone building a collection should use as cornerstones.
It's a daunting task. Which is why I need your help. I don't daunt well under pressure.
Here are a few of mine, in no particular order:
- The Chieftains 5
- The Bothy Band, Old Hag You Have Killed Me
- Christy Moore, Live At The Point
- The Pogues, If I Should Fall From The Grace Of God
- Planxty, The Well Below The Valley
- The Saw Doctors, If This Is Rock and Roll...
- Waterboys, Fisherman's Blues
- Andy Irvine & Paul Brady, self titled
These are all pretty old, granted, but have stood the important test of time in my opinion. I'm sure more will come to me after I wake up. I could probably do this all day. But I'd rather have you do it for me. So what do you think? What are your "must-haves"? Let me know.

...and if we are talking The Pogues I'm going to have to go with Rum Sodomy And the Lash. That is the correct answer. ;)
The Irish Brigade out of Belfast.Any album will do they are the best.
Then there is also Charlie and the bhoys as well any album of theirs will do.
Of course there is Derek Warfield as well.
Plus there is a local band that I have heard songs from on their myspace page. They are called Cannaught Town they are local Irish and sounds pretty damn good.
