Ghostly

You remember that movie where that kid saw the dead people? I'm like that. Kind of. A little. Well, I worked for a while rehabbing a haunted house when I was in high school. I'm not kidding either, this place was full-on ghosted. My cousin Mike and I spent the night in a haunted rectory/former convent once a few years ago. I'll tell you about it sometime. It'll curl you hair. My wife once saw my great-grandmother in the kitchen of my family's cabin in Colorado. In the middle of the night. 40 years after she died. To quote the great Bert Lahr, "I do believe in spooks, I do, I do, I do."

Maybe it's an Irish thing, this connection...obsession maybe, with death. We all read the obituaries. Admit it, you know you do. The Irish sports page. Ever been to an Irish wake? I'm still hungover from my father's and it was in 1986. I have big volumes on my bookshelf at home of Irish ghost stories. The Irish gave us the Banshee and Halloween. It's in the blood.

So I'm beyond excited to meet an actual bonafide ghost hunter at Irish Fest in two weeks. Barry FitzGerald (No, not the guy from Bells of St. Mary's) of televisions' Ghost Hunters International will be here, telling ghost stories and generally scaring the daylights out of all of us. I can't wait.

Barry will be on the Heritage Stage Saturday at 7:00. I'll be there. Maybe I'll see if grand-grandma wants to go.

I, for one, think that Barry will be one of the high points of the Fest!
