Next on my list of Ten Things Not To Miss At Irish Fest This Year:

6. Jim Malcolm. The lead singer of Kansas City Irish Fest alums Old Blind Dogs, Malcolm has once of the most distinctive voices in Celtic music. I loved hearing him when he was in Kansas City last, and I've played holes in my copy of The Gab o Mey, one of my favorite CDs of the last many years. He's an award winning songwriter and a great performer. Plan your Saturday or Sunday afternoon around one of his shows.

Jim Malcolm is one of the most talented human beings walking upright on this or any other planet. Martha and I saw his new 'solo' show down here in Little Rock a few months ago and it is not to be missed. He also just happens to be one of the nicest human beings you could ever meet as well.

His new album - Acquaintance - which came out last year, is fabulous and is a "must buy". It's all Robert Burns stuff, including the original melody for Auld Lang Syne. The only album I play more is his Live in Glenfarg CD. In fact, I'm listening to The Shepherd's Wife track off Acquaintance right now, wishing I was already at KCIF!
