Contest News

Our Queen Of The Contests Cami Travis Groves has asked me to remind all you would-be wordsmiths out there of the brand new contest joining the baking, knitting and picture taking competitions at Irish Fest this year. Cami's well written message to you reads as follows:
Contests Plus One

Are you a writer? Do you become one after a few pints and a rousing chorus of "Molly Malone"? Time to let your mouse and your memories mix, your keyboard and your recollections combine, for The Kansas City Irish Fest's 2008 Writing Contest!

The theme is "My Irish History," and the style is all yours. A poem, a short story, even a limerick (clean—remember, your mom might read this, and she brought you into this world—so she can, well, you know what she can do...), humorous, dramatic, fiction or non, as long as you wrote it and it's 400 words or less, you can submit it! (Just submit it BEFORE August 22!!)

Where you ask? Just click on contests, and find the official rules and entry form link there at the bottom. It's that easy. Enter online—no cuttin' o' the trees for the printin' o' the paper. You could win a great prize. The winning entry will get some fine prizes, including being posted right here where literally (and literate-ly) tens-of-thousands of people cast a reader's eye, PLUS your entry will be read aloud on the Crown Center Stage during Irish Fest by a true Irish storyteller. Ok, make that a true, reputed, competent, sober, and legitimate storyteller.

There are other contests, too—four in all. Along with the writing contest, the baking contest makes a triumphant and tasty return with scones as the challenge. The photography contest is back, too, with "American Foreground, Irish Background" as the theme. And lets knot forget the knitting contest, showcasing your best cabling efforts. All the entry forms and official rules are posted so, just click here for all the information you need! Go n-éirí an t-ádh leat!
Thank you, Cami. So there you go. Notice please that time limit on writing entries: August 22 is your deadline for submissions to the new writing contest. And keep in mind her admonitions about keeping it suitable for your mom.

Here's a toast to my own Irish mother
She gave birth to both me and my brothers
And a half dozen sisters
Then to Dad said "Right, Mister."
"Nine's enough and we'll go not one futher!"
