Volunteer registration is here and we're all excited for this unofficial kick off to the Irish Fest season. Be sure to sign up early to get your best spot. I'll continue with helpful "where to volunteer" tips later in the week, but today being a special day, I have a special incentive. As you know from my incessant begging and whining, we are always struggling to get enough people to sign up and help us out. We offer the free t-shirt, the free ticket, the free refreshments, the proximity to that dreamy Ed Scanlon, but apparently that isn't always enough to entice you. So today, April 1st, we're happy to announce that in 2008 all volunteers at Irish Fest this year will have an area of the Fest named after them. The more you work, the better the naming rights. For example, work one shift helping out with Site Hosts, and 85,000 people will have a chance to visit the "Mike O'Brien" (or whatever you name is) Port-a-Potty. Pick up a few extra hours running the bingo game in the kids' tent, and then buy a beer at the Mike O'Brien Beer Tent. Work all weekend lugging bags of ice around, watch Gaelic Storm play on the Mike O'Brien Stage. How cool is that?
Yes, with more than 1000 volunteers we may get down to naming trash cans or handwashing stations after late comers. The Mike O'Brien Folding Chair isn't out of the realm of possibility. But it's the thought that counts, right? So sign up early and often and then bring the family down to the Your-Name-Here Irish Fest.
