But an announcement nonetheless, babies. And an exciting one.
New for 2008, a brand new way for you to enjoy Irish Fest. Introducing The Snug.
Wikipedia defines a snug this way: "The history of the snug began in Ireland in the late 19th century. It was typically a small, very private room that had a frosted glass window, set above head height, accessing the bar. You paid a higher price for your beer in the Snug, but nobody could see you. It was not only the well off visitors who would use these rooms. The snug was for patrons who preferred not to be seen in the public bar. Ladies would often enjoy a private drink in the snug in a time when it was frowned upon for ladies to be in a pub. The local police officer would nip in for a quiet pint, the parish priest for his evening whiskey, and lovers would use the snug for their clandestine visits."
The Kansas City Irish Fest defines The Snug this way: A place for you and your friends to gather, to gab, to gulp. A private club where you can enjoy not having things like lines for drinks and lines for the loo, and having things like room, shade, seats, tables, complimentary snacks. Here's how it works. Buy a Snug membership for a day or the weekend. A day pass is $100 ($75 for Friday) and a weekend membership is $250. For this inaugural year, you can buy a lifetime pass to the Snug for $1000, should you choose to. Your membership, whichever you choose, gets you 10 drink tickets a day (5 on Friday) redeemable for beer, wine, soda, whatever. Those drink tickets can also be used outside the Snug, and regular Irish Fest drink tickets will be honored inside the Snug. You get unlimited access to the private Snug tent, its bar, tables, chairs and restroom facilities. A commemorative Snug T-shirt, available no where else. A signed 2008 fest poster. Visits from Irish Fest performers. A fancy laminated membership card on a lanyard so that everybody can see just how cool you are. Best of all, you get a respite, a headquarters, a home. A place to call your own at Irish Fest.
Children 12 and under are free at the Snug when Mom or Dad buy a membership. Snug memberships will be available online this summer and at the Fest. Advance purchases include admission to the Fest. The Snug will be located just south of the big beautiful Boulevard stage.
Sound good? I think so too. Meet me in The Snug, this Irish Fest weekend.

Can you tell us who the woderful, ambitious person will be in charge of this new area? Also, where do you get tickets in advance?
Those persons are Carol Braun and Jennifer Krizman, formerly of the Irish Fest Reunion area. Advance tickets will be available through our website this summer.
The more I think about this the better it sounds. I hope it does not fill up too fast. Will you have a limit on how many you sell?
I'm getting excited.
I to am interested in limited numbers? Also is it my understanding it's $100 per person per day? If you don't use all 10 tickets that day, can they be used outside the tent the following day? Can't wait to get there!
I too am excited! Also wondering about numbers. Would like to know that if a person does not use the 10 tickets for one day, may he or she use them the next day outside the area? Always have a great time at the fest.
