Where To Volunteer, Part 1

With volunteer registration for the 2008 Kansas City Irish Fest just scant days away now, you're more than likely consumed with questions as to which job is best for you at the Fest this year. I doubt you slept last night, what with all the tossing and turning and pondering. It's a big decision.

Lucky for you ol' Uncle Bloggy is here to help. First off, there are no bad jobs. All of them will get you a fancy, stylish, free T-shirt. And a free ticket to the Fest. And food and drink and the chance to work with nice, talented, dedicated people, and also me. So there's that. Second of all, or maybe we're up to third of all, I'm here to help you choose. Between now and the April 1st launch of our volunteer drive I'll see if I can edumacate you a little on your opportunities.

Today: The Beverage Committee.

The Beverage Committee, so ably headed by the flame-haired Duchess of Drink Sarah Schields and her able partner, the Sultan of Suds, Dan Leasure, is looking for a few good men and women for their elite core. You can spot the members of the beverage committee from a mile away at Irish Fest. These are the athletes, the ripped, the buff, the toned. Tossing cases of soda pop and water around like so many pebbles, handling heavy bags of ice like throw pillows, they are the envy of lesser physical specimens, objects of desire to others and role models to the young. Zipping around the fest in their turbo-charged golf carts delivering ice and product to the beverage tents, they are a dashing lot indeed. Lounging in the shade of the reefer trucks between runs, they resemble nothing so much as a pride majestic lions on the Serengeti.

The Beverage Committee needs you if you laugh at a little lifting, if you sneer at sweat, if you dream of dirt. If you're at least 18 years old, able to lift 40 lbs loads and up to the many challenges this Irish Fest Special Forces Unit faces on Labor Day weekend, then the Beverage Committee just may have a home for you, you rippling bag of muscle you.

Sign up for the few, the proud, the Bevvies, April 1st at kcirishfest.com.
