Happy Hanukkah tonight to all of our Jewish readers. The Irish, of course, are directly involved in the Festival of Lights.
What, you didn't know that? You can look it up. The celebration of Hanukkah was instituted by none other than Judah "Sean" McCabee* (of the Westmeath McCabees) and his brothers after witnessing the miracle of one day's worth of turf burn in the temple for eight days**. And of course, the McCabee lads celebrated the miracle by frying up some praties.
And you thought you wouldn't learn anything useful today. You're welcome.
*sometimes misspelled Maccabee
**or maybe it was oil. One of those two anyway.
