Here's the first announcement of something that we hope will significantly improve your Kansas City Irish Fest experience next year and in years to come. Beginning in 2008, cash will no longer be accepted at the Irish Fest beverage tents. Cash will still be used for Irish Fest food and merchandise vendors. Tickets will be be the official currency for purchases of beer, wine, water, soda pop and other drinks sold at the tents. Drink tickets will be sold at the ID bracelet stations and various other locations around the fest site. Tickets will not be sold at the beverage tents.
The move to tickets in lieu of cash should significantly speed up service at the tents, as the need to count change is eliminated. And with some forethought and planning, you'll be able to buy your drinks all at once at the ticket stations saving yourself repeated trips there throughout the weekend.
As I said, as we get closer to Irish Fest (which opens in just 307 days for those keeping score at home) you'll be hearing a lot about this change in the hope that no one is unaware of the new policy by the time we open the gates. Please be patient if you get sick of hearing about it. Not everyone retains information as well as you.
This is one more way that we here at Irish Fest are endlessly trying to make Kansas City's Best Fest better for you, our customer, who we love to pieces with all our collective heart.

Really? Darn. Yah, you speed up the line at the beverage tent but make the purchaser spend time in ANOTHER line to buy the tickets....which means more time for the purchaser is invested in each drink purchase.
I always HATE this at other festivals, and I'm not a big drinker.
What a great idea. You festers are now starting to think. Waiting in line for some fool ahead of you to dig through is pockets looking for his last few dollars and waiting for some poor person behind the bar to make change... I'm dying of thirst. Give the bar tender a ticket and get the hell out of the way it is my turn for a Ice Cold Boulevard! Can I use my credit card to buy these tickets? If so don't tell my wife.
To the first comment: you have to stop for an ID check and legal bracelet before you can buy a beer anyway. Right there while you're stopped, while you've got your wallet out anyway, whip out the VISA and pay your bar tab for the entire weekend all at once. You never have to come back to a ticket seller. There's a reason you've seen this done at so many other festivals. It makes the most sense all the way around.
I've seen this at other fests, and I appreciate now knowing the reasoning.
Do you think people purchasing their beverages will be as likely to tip their bartenders?
Our policy on tipping will be getting an overhaul as well. Any tips generated will likely be going to charity in the future.
Receipts are good.
