Today is September 17th, which of course is half a year exactly until March 17th which of course, as everyone knows is the 102nd anniversary of the marriage of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.
It's also halfway to St. Patrick's Day, which in Kansas City has become a sort of holiday in its own right. While you can probably find a small celebration going on in just about any Irish pub in town, if you're looking for something a little grander, and with the official stamp of our friends on the St. Patrick's Day Parade committee to boot, you need to head down to McCormick and Schmick on the Plaza. With music by The Kelihans, the party starts at 5:00 and runs until 8:00. Your ticket ($15 in advance, $20 at the door) covers your beer, wine and appetizers. There'll be additional drink specials, door prizes and other fun stuff too. You can get more details at www.kcirishparade.com.
For the sports-minded, the Kansas City Royals will be hosting their own halfway to St.Pat's pre-game party out at the ballyard. $35 buys you a lower level ticket to the game vs. The Chicago White Sox and admission to the pre-game party with Irish food by Brancato's Catering and music by Flannigan's Right Hook. A couple beers are included, too. Plus the first 20,000 fans get a free green Royals cap with a little shamrock on it. Get details and tickets through the Royals website.
Pick your celebration and let's get the St. Patrick's Day party started. Oh, and happy anniversary, Roosevelts.
