We had an Irish Fest committee meeting last night. These meetings are a lot of fun this time of year. I mean, we're only 35 days away from opening. Spirits are high. The staff is excited. We're all a-quiver with anticipation for the upcoming Labor Day weekend.
But last night, in the midst of all the festivities and frivolities, there was some sobering news delivered. Volunteer Coordinator Daneil told us that we're not quite half way to our volunteer sign up goal.
Not even half way. We have just 35 days until we open, slightly over a month, and we still need some 500 souls to fill our volunteer slots. This is bad. This is scary. And I need your help. Have you volunteered? Since you're reading this, I'm guessing yes. If so, can you think of somebody who might want to join you? Is there a church group you belong to? A bridge club? A fraternity? A softball team? A chain gang? An alumni association? A 12 Step program? Ask them to come along.
There is a small group of us who misspend our time working on this event all year long. But it's not us who really make this thing go every Labor Day weekend. It's you. And your neighbors. And your friends. And your friend's friends. And we need to hear from more of you. If you've already volunteered, can you can pick up another shift? Or if you can think of somebody who really ought to be joining the Irish Fest team, will you let them know about us?
35 days will go fast. Give us a hand, will you? And remember, you might win a a great prize for your efforts.
