Saturday, June 16th is going to be a huge day for the Irish and their friends here in Kansas City. You've got your big Browne's Birthday Bash, of course. And that same day, my pals Tom and Nancy at Bloomsday Books, the world's greatest book store, celebrate Bloomsday, the day.
The 13th annual Bloomsday celebration includes as always the marathon reading of James Joyce's Ulysses, from which the concept of Bloomsday springs. Reading begins at 9:00 a.m. and continues until 11:00 p.m. Readers are still needed, so call 523-6712 and sign up for a slot. At 11:00, it's the annual production of Ulysses In NIghttown, featuring Kansas City's finest thespians and some other people. As always, there'll be music by Eddie "Dedalus" Delahunt, beginning at 1:00 p.m., preceded by a set by The Lucky Charms. As always, there'll be Boulevard Stout. As always, it will be a great time. As always, Tom and Nancy will be charming, delightful and gracious hosts.
Bloomsday Books is located in the Crestwood Shops, just East of Brookside Boulevard on 55th Street. And it's a great place to visit any day.
