This has nothing to do with the epidemic of American obesity, I promise. But pending city approval, we'll be providing a little extra room to roam at Irish Fest this year, as we expand our grounds North into Pershing Road.
If you're familiar with the layout as it was last year, close your eyes and picture this: take the Boulevard Pub Stage where it was last year. Turn it one quarter revolution counterclockwise, so that it now faces East. Now shove it out into Pershing along Grand Blvd. toward Washington Square Park, so that it sits out in the middle of the intersection. Don't worry, the street will be closed off. Now plant your lawn chair, buy yourself a cold drink and enjoy the music. You must be tired after moving that big stage around all by yourself. With our two main stages farther apart, we won't have any of the pesky sound bleed problems that occasionally occurred in past years. We'll have room to spread out our food and craft vendors to limit lines and congestion. We'll have space for a bigger and better Pub Stage, giving us true equals among our two main music venues. And most importantly, we'll have more space for more happy festival goers, who we hope and pray will show up to enjoy it.
We have lots of other improvements in the works, some big, some small. You'll see them all in just..can you believe it? 137 days.
