In the interest of full disclosure, Jimmy Crowley isn't technically a "band." But he's something more than a musician. Let's call him a committee. A team maybe. A crowd. The Crowley Crowd.
Jimmy is a musician, a talented player on both bouzouki and mandola. Jimmy's a singer, with a voice saturated with the tones of his native Cork City. He's a storyteller. He's a novelist. A historian. An ethnographer. He's a playwright. He's an accomplished ballet dancer.
Okay, I made up that last one. But honestly, knowing Jimmy, it wouldn't surprise me. I doubt there's a thing he couldn't do if he set his mind to it.
If you've had a chance to catch one of Jimmy's shows here over the past few months, you'll be as happy as I am that he'll be joining us at this year's Kansas City Irish Fest. Look for him on multiple stages as both musician and historian, as we expect to try to squeeze as much of his great knowledge of Irish music and history out of him as we can.

Richard Thompson? Don't let me down Danny. I will have to release the photos of you naked wearing only black socks and Birkenstocks. Then again, the world is not ready for that horror. So just book Richard Thompson.
The prospect of that disturbing sight notwithstanding, I'm afraid Richard Thompson will not be appaearing at the Kansas City Irish Fest this year. The earlier posting about Mr. Thompson by Ed Scanlon reflected merely Ed's notice of Thompson's birthday and an affection for his music, and not an imminent signing. Sorry for the confusion. And I look damn good in black socks and Birkenstocks. You're just jealous you can't pull off that look.
I don't suppose you could post a soundfile? Or even a video.
Because, see, right now, I see his name, and Ozzy Osborne starts singing "Mr. Crowley" in my head. Which is disturbing.
Done.
Not only have I voice my enjoyment of Richard Thompson, but Van Morrison as well. And you can bet your next 1000 pints of Boulevard Stout that Van will NOT be performing at Irish Fest either. I REALLY LOVE Janice Joplin's music. As much as I enjoy her and as much power as I swing around her at Festival HQ I cannot bring her back from the grave to play either. Remember we are here in the middle of no where and those are big time acts.

Fantastic news about Jimmy being able to appear at this year's KC Irishfest! Wow... what a lineup a this year! However... I must say that, having just seen Jimmy Crowley perform here in Little Rock last week, that video is a poor representation of what it's like to hear him live. It's dark, poorly shot, and has a "detached" quality that you do NOT experience when seeing him live. Jimmy celebrates 30 years of performing this week and has a way of "transporting" his audience like no other. If you want to take a trip to Cork County without suffering the 6 hours and the stale peanuts... be SURE to catch Jimmy at KC Irishfest this year.
Don't sell your self short, Eddie B.
Think big time, you shall be big time.
