Giant Heads

I love the Kansas City St. Patrick's Day parade. Really. I love the people who work so hard to put it on every year. Love love love.

But I've gotta say it: those billboards freak me out.

You know the ones I'm talking about? With the really scary looking scowling kid with the tricolor face? That kid looks like he's about as excited to go to a parade as he would be to go to the dentist. No, actually he looks genuinely pissed off that he has to go to a parade. Or maybe that somebody painted his face. Freaks me out to see his 7 foot high noggin glaring down at me.

I just had to get that off my chest. I'll be at the parade, marching with the Irish Fest float. Wouldn't miss it. Love it. But if I see that kid down there, I'm gone.

Agree. Freaky. Maybe a movie in this - Children of the Potato.

Yikes! Thats actually a BILLBOARD? If I didn't know better I would never go near the parade based on that little gem of advertising. Looks like the kid has every intention of stealing my wallet if/when I do show up.
Somebody needs to get their money back from some certain advertising agency. Mission NOT accomplished.

And the billboards say "Our Favorite Mug".

What the hell does that mean???

Scary? Look in the mirror!

I don't see the scowling or scary. Nope. Though I haven't seen it yet as a billboard, only here in this blog just now. Looks to me like a stare. And does seem an odd choice for a billboard advertising the parade.

Tis the BOGMAN I'd say! XOXOX Mitra

I totally agree! The parade people thought that this billboard was a good idea??????

I like the idea of freckles and a smile!

I remember a couple of years ago there was an entry in the parade "The Edge of Hell" This group was dressed up like they just arrived from down under (and I don't mean Australia). They were enjoying running up to small children and scaring them.

Sure makes one wonder what that has to do with St. Patrick?

I swear you guys could see murderous intent in the Mona Lisa. That face has virtually no expression - you're bringing your own baggage when you see the worst.

I think the "mug" is self explanitory. I saw the billboard when it first came out, it caught my eye, thought it was cool.

No expression, maybe. But wouldn't a smiling Irish face have made more sense? Seems like kind of a no brainer if you're advertising a parade.

There are dozens of smiling Irish faces on the Parade's website. I'm sure you know the address so I won't make a gratuitous plug.

Enjoy. :)

Look at how many post Pro and Con posts that this Billboard has caused.

I love the Irish Fest Cow and all that she brings to the KC Irish Fest but if getting the consumer's attention is the main focus well, I saw three responses to her début post and thirteen and counting for the face on that billboard.

Thirteen??? When has even a Band Announcement caused this much attention?

Love it or hate it at least they are talking about it, looking it up, and it got your attention.

Someone, maybe St Andrews, were handing out flyers of the same boy that was painted blue with a white cross "x" in his face. This was at the Brookside Parage on Saturday.
