A few days ago Ed Scanlon was telling you about a band that you'll be hearing at Irish Fest this year, Different Drums of Ireland. I was first turned on to this band three or four years ago by one of the organizers of the Milwaukee Irish Fest and I've been beating the drum (Ha! Get it?) to bring them here ever since. I finally wore Shocko (Dave Shaughnessy, who books all our bands) down for 2007 and you'll thank me for the effort when you see this band.
Aside from the fact that they put on one of the best live shows I've seen in all the years I've been seeing Irish music, one of the reasons I'm excited to have them here is the larger political statement that the band is making with not only their music, but simply by existing.
And here's some music and video from an earlier visit to the states.

That is really interesting! I just learned a hell of a lot in that first clip. Thanks, Dan!
So, I am a former-Catholic-now-Protestant of Czech desent playing a drum that is associated with the Catholic-Nationalist movement in Ireland.
Is there a support group for that?
