No, I'm not mumbling. The MVFS (Missouri Valley Folklife Society) is presenting a concert by Misla (the band) this coming Saturday, January 27th.
"Misla?" you ask? Allow me:
"Tommy Martin, one of the foremost uilleann pipers on the world scene, has put together a very talented group of players with an amazing range of instruments-uilleann pipes, Irish harp, fiddle, piano accordion, guitar, bouzouki, mandolin and concertina. Eileen Gannon, 2000 All-Ireland Senior Harp Champion, specializes in the playing of traditional music. Ian Walsh was born with a fiddle in his hands and began teaching at fourteen after taking first place in the Irish fiddle nationals competition. Kevin Buckley started playing fiddle at the age of nine and through the years has learned many styles. And Kelly Winters has an extensive musical training background and is a skilled piano accordion and concertina player."
"Born with a fiddle in his hand". Yow. That must have made for a painful delivery. His poor mother. But regardless of that obstetrical oddity, this should be a great show for trad fans.
