Congratulations To Ellis Island, The Band, Not The Actual Island, I Mean

From Mick Doyle in Omaha comes some exciting news concerning KCIF alums Ellis Island:

What an incredible night we had at the first annual Omaha Entertainment Awards, held at the beautiful Holland Center for the Performing Arts. It was quite the first class production, with Limos, tuxedos, red carpet entrances and television and media. We felt extremely blessed to be attending, let alone nominated.

It was the first time that Omaha's visual arts, performing arts (including acting, production, and direction), and musicians of all genres were in the same room at once to be honored. We were nominated in the Traditional / Indiginous Category alongside Mariachi y Luna, The Native American act Indigenous, and the Zydeco / Cajun act, The Prairie Gators. The event was sponsored by the Reader and broadcast live on TV. The program notes were very gracious and listed us as: "This lively two-piece has been an Omaha pub darling for more than a decade. The band performs traditional Irish folk tunes with such a zest that the crowd can't help but join in."

So enough of the suspense, and the winner was... Ellis Island!!!! We were quite stunned and honored but ultimately this award is a credit to you, our fans, who voted for us. We are very fortunate that Omaha can support ethnic music, and are grateful that there are music venues that support the same. This is the first time that Dave and I have been honored in this way, and to accept the award at an event with all the pomp and pageantry of last night was a huge thrill for us. We are forever indebted to all of you who have spent your weekends listening to us. We are very excited about the new year, and we will do our best to live up to the title of Best Live Act in the Traditional / Indiginous genre. It was also a big night for the Brazen Head, as Acoustic Groove, who also play at the pub, won for Best Cover Band. Wouldn't it be fun to have the two of us play a gig together sometime?

Congratulations to Mick and Dave!
