Auld Lang Syne

For several years now, one of my favorite holiday traditions in Kansas City has been the celebration of the New Year on Irish time (6:00 PM locally). Great for families and people like me who like to be fast asleep when the midnight gunfire begins on New Year's Eve. Beginning in the late much missed Molloy Bros. Irish Pub, the party has moved here and there through the years but this year it's found a true home.

Eddie Delahunt's Cafe & at 45th and State Line will be hosting what I'm sure will become an annual event with the ringing in of 2007, Irish style. Sunday, December 31 (of course) starting 4:00 pm with live Irish Music, hors d'ouvres & libations, including naturally a champagne toast (Eau d'Liffey, vintage 1974) at 6:00...that's midnight Ireland time. The patio will be tented and heated and a great time is guaranteed.

The coast for all that frivolity? A mere $25 per person, which covers all of the aforementioned snacks and libations. As you might expect from a classy event like this, advance tickets are required and space is limited. Run, don't walk to Cafe & right now, have a scone and a cup of coffee or tea and reserve your spot. Or stop in for lunch and ask for the Eddie Special. No mayo on mine please.

Eddie Delahunt's Cafe & is conveniently located at 1811 West 45th St & State Line. 816 753 3322.
