News From Dougie

Some news from one of Kansas City's best and most versatile traditional musicians, Doug Sparling:

I'm finally back at work on my solo CD...and with that, a little other news.

Last month, two of my original tunes (jigs) - Launching The Currach/ Gort na gCapall were featured on the Celtic Folk Podcast, Show 9, "On the Road Again."

It looks like I'll be on a Celtic Compilation come the first of the year (2007). I've been told Phil Coulter will also be on the disc. My tune "The Old Stone Bridge" (written in memory of that lovely old stone arch bridge in Malin, Co. Donegal) will be my contribution, and I was told the CD artwork will include a stone bridge...

And, I recently licensed four tracks to a major East-coast music library, including two Irish tracks that should be on my CD.

On news, I just got a short piece of music forwarded to a music production library that supplies music to reality shows like Survivor and the Apprentice. And, I'm working on an indie film soundtrack (The Hunter) with a composer from the Oprah Winfrey show. My contribution so far has been playing low whistle on the main theme...should have an mp3 on my site soon.

And speaking of my site, I've got some new music, including a new Irish air that I wrote last week, on my website.

He's also threatening to get a band together for Irish Fest next year, which would be a real treat for local music fans. Check out all of Doug's great music. You'll also hear him on the Elders' recently released Racing The Tide.
