Boo
I love October. I love the weather (these past few days of August temperatures notwithstanding), I love the change of the seasons, and I love Halloween. I always have. Halloween, as you might know, is an Irish holiday, brought here long ago by Irish immigrants. Jack-o-lanterns, costumes, and the the general scariness of our celebrations here all have their beginnings in the pagan Irish celebration of Samhain (pronounced "sah-win").
Well, the Irish have reclaimed it, in Kansas City anyway. Once again this year Deadie Delahunt presents his annual Pooka* Party at Harling's Upstairs Bar, Westport and Main Streets. Assisted by his wife Batsy and brother Coffin, otherwise known as DJ Irish, Deadie will transform Harling's into the Kansas City Spook Fest. The party is a bit earlier this year, October 20th at 8:00. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds go to benefit The Good Samaritan Project, a local AIDS service provider. There'll be the usual costume contest and door prizes, and music from Deadie and DJ Irish.
So get busy on that costume, and come out and support this great cause and really great party. For more details, visit www.eddiedelahunt.com or stop by Eddie's Cafe & at 45th and Stateline.
