What's Three Weeks Between Friends?

The better-late-than-never Hearne Christopher of the Kansas City Star mentioned us in his column today, even quoting me...as "one organizer". There's also a picture of two members of Irish Fest band The Bridies, along with our own Keli O'Neill Wenzel.

And in a journalistic first, Pat O'Neill was accused in print of not overestimating our attendance! Read it on-line, right here.

Did Hearn go to the rest of the Festival?

Hearne Christopher was only seen at the KCIF once - and that was to ogle the Bridies as they did their Riverdance/schoolgirl bit. He seemed interested only in getting his angle covered and the fact that it was taking place at the Irish Fest was only incidental. He merely swooped in like some big-headed bird of prey and then was gone into the night.
While his comments regarding the attendance are appreciated, the whole tone of the mention seems more than a little bit condescending. But that is the mixed blessing when dealing with a gossip columnist like Mr. Christopher.

Hearne practices Gonzo Journalism at it's finest and ought not to be taken too seriously. But since he actually gets his 'writing' published, and apparently people do read it, he should be more concerned with correctly spelling the names of those he interviews. One would learn that in Reporting 101.

Before you slam Hearn too much, remember a few things...

The pen is mighter than the sword.

He did mention that we were having Luka Bloom (even though it was a backhanded compliment).

At least he talked to the right people concerning KCIF and thank God he didn't mention (for once) the rain year.
