Marching Toward March

We have a huge St. Patrick's Day parade here in Kansas City. Depending on who you talk to, it's either the second or third biggest in the country. And every year, they (contrary to popular belief, the Parade and Irish Fest are not run by the same organization) have a theme for the parade. Some past themes:

2006: An Irish Tribute to Walt Disney
2005: Show-Me You're Irish!
2004: '04 Fathers: Celebrate Our Irish Heritage
2003: 0'Three's the Charm
2002: There's No Place Like Home
2001: 2001 An Irish Odyssey
2000: Irish Visions of the New Millennium
1999: Great Irish Americans of the 20th Century

Now, maybe you think, as some do, that "St. Patrick's Day" is theme enough to build a parade around. Maybe you think "A Salute to Irish Cheese" is a topic too long ignored. Or perhaps you'd like to see a parade on the theme of "Famous Irish Accountants , 1972-1981".

Well for 2007, your voice can at last be heard. The fine people who make the parade happen every year are letting you pick the theme this year. And giving you a prize when you do. The winner will receive a free float entry in the 2007 parade, $40 worth of cool parade merchandise and due recognition on the parade website. Submit your ideas at www.kcirishparade.com, by August 30th.

And if you're stuck for ideas, if you ask me, "Dan Regan: The Man, The Legend" is a sure-fire winner.
