Kansas City Irish Fest director Ronan Collins, who clearly had too much time on his hands during his recent visit home to Dublin, sends us his second music report:
Musical Highlight #2
Frankly Sinatra
featuring Sean Hession, June 15th, National Concert Hall, Dublin
It may seem a little strange that an Irishman would be such a Sinatraphile that he would fund and record two studio albums featuring songs the from The Great American (Sinatra) Songbook. That is what Sean Hession has done with the recent release of "The Hession Session, Vol II - Get Out of Town". Sean sings Sinatra with an uncanny resemblance to Ol Blue Eyes. His show at the National Concert Hall to launch the second album was a sellout with 1,200 people enjoying Sinatra's greatest interpreter front a 16 piece orchestra with Honor Heffernan helping out on vocals
as well as the jazz legend, Louis Stewart, on guitar.
Three encores and a standing ovation suggest that he'd be perfect to headline next year's Festa Italiana!
Tomorrow, Ronan reviews a concert in Cork by the great Christy Moore.
