Dave Shaughnessy, the guy who books all our bands for the Kansas City Irish Fest is kind of a mad scientist. Actually booking the bands is pretty straight forward. But deciding on who he wants (with input from you, and the staff), contacting agents, and getting contracts signed is just the beginning. Then the mad scientist tinkering starts.
If we have Paddy Punk and The Shamrockers on the Terrace Stage at 4:00, would it be better to balance them with The Carlow Crooners or Maureen O'Houlihan and Her Happy Harp on the Pub Stage? Or maybe just move 'em to 6:00 and put Laois Law in their spot at 4:00?
Stuff like that. In the end, he somehow always gets it exactly right.
I mention this because you'll notice a small change Dave's made on the schedule for Sunday night. Gaelic Storm and The Elders have swapped places on the Terrace Stage. I won't bore you with the reasons...I think it had to do with the phases of the moon and the fluctuation of poiteen prices in Puckawn. I have no doubt it's the smart move, because Dave, as I mentioned, always gets it right.
Anyway, don't argue with him. Just keep an idea on the schedule. Mad scientists do not like to be bothered while they work.
