Sheer Pottery

One of our great 2006 Kansas City Irish Fest bands, Gaelic Storm, had an on-line contest a few months back. They asked their fans to write a limerick (Irish band, Limerick...get it?) about their favorite band. The best poet got two tickets to a Gaelic Storm show.

This was the winner:

There once were 5 lads and a lass,
Playing tunes to make you shake your ass.
Travelin the land,
With Guiness in hand,
To you, Gaelic Storm, we raise a glass!

Okay, clunky meter, bad punctuation and misspellings aside, that's not too bad. Wrong beer, too. But I bet you could do better.

So I'm having a contest too. Actually, I'm having the exact same contest. Write me a limerick about the Kansas City Irish Fest. The winner, judged by me, gets two free tickets to Irish Fest, where you can see Gaelic Storm perform, and a Gaelic Storm CD.
I'll try one, just to get the ball rolling.

On Labor Day weekend each year
For music and culture and beer
The Irish all gather
Although they might rather
Be back home in Dublin than here.

See? Easy. Now you try.

Send your limerick to me at danny@kcirishfest.com. And try to keep it clean-ish. We are a family festival, after all. Enter as many times as you want. Entry deadline is May 24th, which is 100 days until Irish Fest. The winning poem will be posted here on the website on May 25th, which is 99 days until...well, you get the idea.

And just for fun to get you in the mood, get yourself a swanky poetic nom de plume here.
